Our Story
THE FREEDOM HOUSE JOURNEY

Our journey began, January 2015, with only a handful of families meeting during the week in Nic and Taryn Graham’s lounge in Brettenwood, Salt Rock. Hungry for a deeper and more authentic expression of Christianity, we gathered in worship to pour out our love on God and encourage each other toward bold and courageous living. It was raw, it was powerful, it was life changing as Holy Spirit met with us as we ministered, prophesied and got to grips with God’s Word. More and more people were drawn to God’s life and soon we found ourselves needing to begin meeting on a Sunday. There were just so many kids and that was the practical thing to do. Glenridge Church was walking with us during these days and helped us to discover our destiny – we were actually becoming a church. After meeting at The Monkey Country pub at The Litchi Orchard, we found a more permanent space at Burnedale, near Umhlali, in a converted Barn. Concrete floors, open gum pole sides and a tin roof became our home and it has been breathtaking since. After all, all good things start in a barn, and we continue to meet in our beloved barn till today.

In April of 2017 Freedomhouse Church was launched from Glenridge Church, Durban, and what an adventure it has been. We feel like we have not too much other than God alive amongst His people to offer, but we love it and Holy Spirit is adding to us weekly. The Acts 3 words of Peter and John, coined by Matt Roberts in our earliest of days, seem to be our very own: ‘silver and gold we do not have, but what we have we give you …’

True to this, we have relied on God’s powerful and kind leading and we plan to remain in that safe and exciting place for good. We never thought we would be a church but God loves taking the unlikeliest of things and making them glorious. We believe we are on a glorious journey with Jesus, and you are welcome to join us!
